UNIVERSTIES CATCH THE VENTURE SPIRIT: KEN LANGONE, SUCCESS AND PHILANTHROPY
Lest readers get another impression, I do not discount the value of University education to business and social endeavour. Ken Langone, investment banker and venture investor provides a great example of negotiating a hard-scrabble road to success and social contribution through university. Reading his biography, one learns that Ken Langone achieved notoriety through integrity and perserverance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_Langone
Most importantly, Langone has given back...
Rather than engage in pure financial speculation, Langone continues to contribute funds to the advancement of medical research, children's welfare and business education. He invested in staple American hardware brands such as Handy Dan and Home Depot. Ken Langone thus exemplifies the entrepreunerial spirit as a force for good in higher learning and endeavour.
As my school Brighton Grammar's motto urges, 'Meliora Sequamur'. KEEP ON STRIVING FOR BETTER THINGS : )
