PLAYING TO WIN: HOW-TO GUIDE REQUIRED??

The times are a'changing. But what do they call for? More than ever, I personally feel compelled toward movement - the need for depth and speed. In all my aspects of endeavour, I feel trapped by inertia, the slow accretion of old traditions and practices. Whether the way companies operate or the way orchestras programme and finance their art. Perhaps I'm overwhelmed psychically by my own "angoisse", that terror of super-abundance and superfluity which careers through modern culture and commerce. This is the sort of freakish buzz Roquentin inhaled in Sartre's 'Nausea'. The contemporary may betimes feel nauseous. Cut the Metaphysics! What does it take to win, not just turn up and play in today's hyper-fluid world? Gustav Mahler proclaimed, "Tradition ist Schlamperei'. Modern commerce and politics/economics seems like Heisenberg Uncertainty in action.. How can we "feel" and act not just faster, but smarter, higher?? What does it really take, today, to win?! And how can We do it now? Right now???

TENURE AND INCREMENTALISM OUT!!

Just watched an invigorating interview on CNN with Jack Welch regarding housing starts. I feel like we need, politely, to stick it to ourselves: we've got to rescue ourselves from ourselves and do it yesterday .. Incrementalism is the road to disaster in the current climate and, frankly, going forward into a hyper-competitve age. No 1 - at the very least, no 2, or God forbid three - is essential to national prosperity.

With reluctant gains in housing and stock market indices, it may be tempting to pat ourselves on the back, but recovery through innovation will require a full-frontal assault. In this regard, I think we in Australia together with the US need to get hard on our large and medium-sized business in delivering larger dividends for creative thinking and competitive spirit. Those in organizations who unconstructively resist innovation and ploddingly dismiss boundaryless behaviour, I think, should have been managed out yesterday.

The concept of 'tenure', which I hear sub voce from fearful managers here in Australia, should be crushed underfoot. We need to start playing our A-Teams in a kaleidoscopic corporate and global landscape.

The stakes are really that high..

What are your thoughts??

STOLEN THOUGHTS REFLECTING RUBY SPARKS & WITCH HARTS

Alexander and Campaspe - George Peel

{Accompanied by Cesar Franck's Redemption, Psyche}

"See, they begin to flock; and behold, my
master bustles himself to fly.

Larks that mount aloft in the air, build their nests below in the earth..."

'Hast thou, by drawing her beauty, brought to pass that thou canst scarce draw thine own breath ? And by so much the more hast thou increased thy care, by how much the more thou hast showed thy cunning: was it not sufficient to behold the fire, and warm thee, but with Satyrus thou must kiss the fire and burn thee.? Campaspe, Campaspe, art must yield to nature, reason to appetite, wisdom to affection ! Could Pygmalion entreat by prayer to have his ivory turned into flesh ? and cannot Apelles obtain by plaints' to have the picture of his love changed to life ? Is painting so far inferior to carving .' or dost thou, Venus, more delight to be hewed with chisels then shadowed with colours.'

'...beautiful countenance ! the express image of Venus, but somewhat fresher : the only pattern of that eternity which Jupiter, dreaming asleep, could not conceive again waking. Blush, Venus, for I am ashamed to end thee. Now must I paint things unpossible for mine art, but agreeable with my affections : deep and hollow sighs, sad and melancholy thoughts, wounds and slaughters of conceits, a life posting to death, a death galloping from life'..

[Song by Apelles.

Cupid and my Campaspe play'd
At cards for kisses, Cupid paid;
He stakes his quiver, bow, and arrows,
His mother's doves, and team of sparrows;
Loses them too ; then down he throws
The coral of his lip, tlie rose
Growing on's cheek (but none knows how),
With these, the crystal of his brow,
And then the dimple of his chin :
All these did my Campaspe win.
At last he set- her both his eyes;
She won, and Cupid blind did rise

PONDERING: A-MAZE!!!

The witchcraft of her tongue.....

DON'T TREAD ON US!....

                                               Ant-Acid

'Don't tread on me
Say don't tread on me

Liberty or death, what we so proudly hail
Once you provoke her, rattling of her tail
Never begins it, never, but once engaged...
Never surrenders, showing the fangs of rage

Say don't tread on me

So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war
So be it
Settle the score
Touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore...

Don't tread on me

Love it or leave it, she with the deadly bite
Quick is the blue tongue, forked as the lightning strike
Shining with brightness, always on surveillance
The eyes, they never close, emblem of vigilance

No, no, no, no
Say don't tread on me

So be it, threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war
So be it, settle the score
Touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore...

Don't tread on me

So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war

Liberty or death, what we so proudly hail
Once you provoke her, rattling of her tail

So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war
So be it
Settle the score
Touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore...

Don't tread on me'...
